Why You're Here

Why understanding hasn't been enough

You've done the work. You can name what happened, trace how your past shaped you, and explain the patterns that keep repeating. You may have spent years in therapy doing exactly this.

And yet — the same reactions persist. Shame surfaces quickly in close relationships. Anger flares and leaves guilt behind. You withdraw when someone gets too near, or you over-accommodate and lose yourself. Grief sits unprocessed. The longing for connection coexists with a deep fear of it.

These are not cognitive problems. They are the residue of unresolved attachment injuries — early relational experiences in which core emotional needs were unmet, dismissed, or punished. That injury lives in the body and the nervous system, not in the narrative.

That is why understanding alone hasn't been enough.

Working Where Insight Stops

This is not primarily insight-oriented therapy. The focus is on accessing the maladaptive emotional responses that organise your suffering — and transforming them through direct experiential work.

In practice: working with shame as it arises in session, rather than reconstructing its origins. Allowing grief to surface rather than explaining it. Discovering that the anger you've been suppressing carries an unmet need that was never safe to express.

Safety and emotional regulation are foundational throughout. Attachment injuries are worked through directly, at the pace the nervous system allows, within a relationship that provides what was originally absent.

As Leslie Greenberg, founder of Emotion-Focused Therapy, has written:

"Maladaptive emotion cannot be reasoned away — it has to be accessed and transformed."

This Approach May Be a Fit If:

  • • You've had therapy before but feel something remains unfinished
  • • You understand your patterns but can't shift them
  • • You struggle with shame, persistent self-criticism, unresolved anger, or fear of closeness
  • • You feel emotionally overcontrolled, easily overwhelmed, or both
  • • You want depth work — not coping strategies alone

Individual Psychotherapy in Antwerp and Online

I offer in-person psychotherapy in Antwerp and secure online sessions in English for clients internationally.

My work is grounded in Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based experiential approach focused on transforming the maladaptive emotional patterns that sustain suffering. My clinical focus is complex trauma and attachment injuries — the aim is not symptom management, but lasting emotional change.

I am a certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor (ISEFT) with over 25 years of clinical experience. You can read more about my background on the About page.

Training and Supervision for Therapists

I provide supervision and training to EFT therapists and advanced trainees through EFTSkills, a platform developed in consultation with Dr. Leslie Greenberg serving practitioners across 30+ countries. Further writings and professional resources are available on the Writing & Resources page.

"I had the opportunity to observe Aaron's clinical work and was struck by his precision, steadiness, and emotional attunement. He stays closely with the emotional process moment to moment and helps clients deepen their experience safely, even during high-intensity work. His integration of theory and practice is clear, thoughtful, and grounded."
